REMEMBERING PONSELLEIn a series of May concert performances and celebratory masses, the late Metropolitan Opera Diva, Rosa Ponselle, will be memorialized in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of her death on May 25, 1981. A long-time resident of Maryland's Green Spring Valley following retirement from her legendary career, Ponselle richly contributed to Baltimore's cultural life. Through an endowment established upon Ponselle's demise, The Rosa Ponselle Foundation has sponsored international and statewide competitions, concerts, study grant and traveling awards to the aspiring young vocal artists since 1984. Among the recipients of these awards who have achieved internationally acclaimed success are Olga Borodina and Deborah Voight. The concerts and celebratory masses in the month of May shall each feature former Rosa Ponselle Competition Gold Medalists Kennsithia Mitchell and Stefania Dovhan, and longtime Ponselle friend, Mary Malas Aielle. The public is invited to attend each of the programs without charge. The schedule of events is as follows:
Musical preparation for the Dovhan recitals and the Mass at the Basilica of the Assumption is by Maestro Igor Chichagov. For further inquiries, please contact: Miss Elayne Duke
