About the author Enrico Aloi Enrico Aloi, a native New Yorker, was involved in art and music since childhood. He studied piano at an early age and became interested in classical music, especially vocal. Mr. Aloi traveled extensively to many parts of the world, enjoying the beauty of the lands, their arts, their music, and their singers. He studied at the Traphagen School of Fashion for three years, specializing in the history and design of theatrical costumes, lettering, layouts, and fashion illustration. His commercial art career lasted for forty-two years. He retired in 1984 after specializing in department store advertising in all the New York City newspapers of that time. He handled illustrations, lettering, and layouts, eventually becoming an art director. But music is Mr. Aloi's greatest love. He has attended operatic performances since 1935, enjoying the tail end of the golden age of singers. Among them was Rosa Ponselle, to him the most outstanding. The greatest thrill of his life was meeting and knowing Rosa Ponselle for the last twenty-four years of her life. Knowing her was to love her. Mr. Aloi passed away on March 25, 2002. The Rosa Ponselle Foundation mourns his passing.
