During its 8th Annual Rosa Ponselle "ALL MARYLANDERS"' Competition of March 25, 26 and 27 at Goucher College's Kraushaar Theater, three young artists were awarded Medalist Laureateship prizes, and eleven singers were awarded Silver Rose and Honorable Mention awards along with cash prizes.
The three Medalist Laureates, who were awarded $1,500 each in cash and scholarships, were 20-year old baritone, Timothy Mix, who was the Rosa Ponselle Gold Medallion Awardee. Mr. Mix studies at the Peabody Conservatory with Russell Penney. The Carmela Ponselle Silver Medalist awardee was 19-year old soprano, Valerie Kopinski, of the University of Maryland, College Park. Miss Kopinski studies with Martha Randall. The Enrico Aloi Bronze Medalist award went to 19-year old soprano, Danielle Pastin of the University of Maryland, College Park, who is also a student of Martha Randall.
Six young Maryland artists each received $300 Rosa Ponselle Silver Rose cash awards. They are:

The Medalist and Silver Rose awardees will receive musical preparation for the Rosa Ponselle Annual "Showcase', Concert which will be presented in March of 2000.
The Annual Rosa Ponselle "ALL MARYLANDERS"' Competition for Young Classical Singers will open its doors in the year 2000 to young artists between the years of 10 to 21 from Maryland and Washington, D.C.
